We often hear people say, “Never give up.” These can be encouraging words and words of determination. A person who believes in them will keep trying to reach his goal no matter how many times he fails. In my opinion, the quality of determination to succeed is an important one to have. Therefore, I believe that we should never give up.

One reason is that if we give up too easily, we will rarely achieve anything. It is not unusual for us to fail in our first attempt at something new, so we should not feel discouraged and should try again. Besides, if we always give up when we fail, we will not be able to develop new skills and grow as people. Another reason we should never give up is that we can learn from our mistakes only if we make a new effort. If we do not try again, the lesson we have learned is wasted. Finally, we should never give up because as we work to reach our goals, we develop confidence, and this confidence can help us succeed in other areas of our lives. If we never challenge ourselves, we will begin to doubt our abilities.

In short, it is important that we do not give up when working for our goals. Whether we succeed in the end or not, we will learn something, and what we learn will help us to become better, more confident people. Furthermore, if we give up, we have non chance of attaining our goals, but if we keep trying, there is always a chance that we will succeed one day.

My dear friends,

I’m very sorry to know that a big earthquake happened in your country. Maybe many people around you lost their lives in the earthquake. But please don’t be afraid. You are not alone. We’ll be with you forever. You should cheer up and be brave to face all kinds of difficulties.

People all over the world have shown their love to you in different ways. They have given away large amounts of money to your country so far. Love makes us stronger. We know maybe your life is going to be difficult in the future, but you should never give up!

我的英语口语曾经很差，我以为我永远也学不好。新采的老师建议我每天大声朗读。可是开始时我无法读下去，不会的词太多。我都不想再学英语了。就在那时，有个声音告诉我：“不要放弃，加油!”于是我坚持每天朗读半个小时。现在我的口语进步了很多，我还在学校的英语演讲比赛中得过一等奖呢!

Never Give Up

My spoken English used to be very poor. I thought I could never make any proGREss in it. A new English teacher suggested that I should read aloud every day. But at the beginning, I could hardly go on. There were too many new words. I didn’t want to study English any more. Just then, a voice told me, “Never give up, come on! ”Then I persisted in reading aloud for half an hour every day. Now it is improved a lot. I have even won the first prize in our school’s oral English contest.

There is a saying said that don t give up forever.When I was a child,my teachers often told that don t give up,and the hope was always there.

Whenever we meet with a problem,however hard the problem is,we shouldn t stop our work.We must have a faith that the most beautiful view will come in after the most high hill.There are also many examples,such as Zhang Haidi,Zheng ZHihua,Helen Keller and so on,they all had a bad life,but they all successed by their efforts.

Before, I believe in those words, I think if people insist, they can do everything. But last week, I saw a TV show, a scholarship told people to learn to give up sometimes, and they could gain more. 教师不仅要有自己深厚的专业功底，还要有各方面的素质修养，要有一颗宽容之心，要能接纳受教育的每一个孩子，要让每个孩子都能在教室里找到自己，这就要求教师不以分数，不论长相，不以学生背景来区别对待学生。

我曾经也是学生，不喜欢老师带有色眼镜。作为教师，十多年来，我从来不特别对待高分学生或者学困生，对待优秀生我可以把他的闪光点拿出来做榜样，拿来大家分享，同时理性的告诉他/她，还有哪些地方可以改进，哪些地方还可以做得更好；对于学困生总是鼓励；从来不打击一个孩子的自信和学习积极性。我曾经在课堂上说的一句话就是“No one is perfect”， 世界上没有完美的人，每个人都是有自己的长处和短处的，要学会彼此尊重。

前几天，我班上的一个学生，因为是地方上的，比起所内的学生来说差距很大，所内的孩子有的从幼儿园就开始报班学英语，有的大约都有接近七八年的英语学习史了，所以每次这个学困生用蹩脚的英语回答问题时总要受一番嘲笑。作为老师应该不失时机教育这些学生，首先不要嘲笑别人，学英语也就是起步早晚几年而已，并且暂时处于领先水平不等永远比别人强，因为知识无涯，因为天外有天，学得早的理应学得更好，晚起步地要加倍努力。在我的英语教学中有很多学生是后来居上的，暂时学得很好的，要学得更好，这样既可培养优秀生的平和心态，也给学困生以尊重和自信！在这些方面老师要宽容、尊重每个学生。做好学困生的自尊、自信和自强心理的培养，做老师的导向作用太大了，如果一名老师首先经常拿分数在班上说事，或者公开批评考试不好的同学，或者极力表扬高分同学，或者对于嘲笑他人的同学不及时制止，后果是很恶劣的。对于每个学生的心理影响都是深远而重大的，有可能会维持一生，这样学困生会自卑、厌学，优秀生也还会养成骄纵、唯我独尊的心理。

有个男孩升入初中以前没怎么学过英语，进入初一（一）班时，和其他同学相比差距很大，心理很黯然，对英语也没有什么兴趣。刚开始每次上课回答问题，学生都要嘲笑他那结结巴巴的英语，每次碰到这样的情形，我都会及时予以制止，并且以宽容信任的语言去鼓励他，我会在全班说“Don?蒺t laugh at others. It?蒺s impolite. We believe him！ 并且每次只要他有一点点进步的表现，我都会在全班表扬他，真心的为他感到高兴。这孩子也渐渐地对英语没那么排斥，并且开始对英语感兴趣起来。试想如果不及时制止对他的嘲笑声，不保护好他的自尊心，他可能会过早的关闭那扇学英语的门。

尤其令我感到可喜的是：每次在课外碰到他，他总是老远就会大声的叫老师好，甚至比其他学生声音都要响亮。这一点至少证明他是个懂礼貌懂感情的孩子，至少说明他对英语老师有向师性。并且他的英语学习方面也有了喜人的进步，听写单词，完成作业方面都比原来做得好。在英语朗读和背诵课文方面也都有了明显的变化。初一年级绵阳市期末统考他从第一学期的不及格上升到第二学期的80分以上。进入初二年级以来，上英语课他表现得比以前更加积极活跃了！有时他也会积极地发言，大声而自信地说英语了。他最开始的英语劣势在正确的引导下不仅没给他心理上留下阴影，反之，他还朝着健康积极的方向发展起来了！

这学期我们学校增设了英语兴趣班，最开始报班的学生只有二十个人，其中就有他。上第一堂课的时候，我尤其注意到了基础相对薄弱的他，上课积极，认真听讲，勤做笔记。我当时就在课堂表扬了他：尽管基础稍弱，但他能参加我们这个班，这就证明他好学这一大优点。其他同学也都点头称赞。前不久上英语课的时候，我请他起来为大家朗读英语，他朗读得还真不错。我在班上说了这样一句话“某某同学读英语比起以前流利动听了吧“。全班同学都不约而同地为他鼓起掌来。我看得出来，大家是发自内心的为他高兴为他鼓掌！作为老师来说，最让我欣慰的是：不论是所谓的“学困生”，还是大家眼中的“优秀生”，所有的学生都向着积极健康的良性方向和谐发展，互相宽容，互相鼓励，相互喝彩！

所以老师的导向尤其重要，老师如果刚开始就以分数来区别学生优劣，以某些外在表象、基础强弱、起步早晚来判定学生是否聪明，势必会打击到一些孩子，使他们过早地成为真正的学困生。作为教师应该多一点宽容、耐心和爱心，眼光长远，接纳尊重每一个孩子的成长规律，多鼓励他们，培养他们的兴趣，增强他们的自信，这样他们才有可能沿着学习的道路一直坚持不懈地走下去，才真正有可能做到： Never give up， just keep going！
